The Atomic Bombings of Hiroshima & Nagasaki

Summary

On August 6 and 9, 1945, the United States dropped atomic bombs on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, killing an estimated 200,000 people immediately and in the following months. These were the first and only uses of nuclear weapons in warfare. Japan surrendered on August 15, 1945, ending World War II. The bombings inaugurated the nuclear age and transformed international relations for decades to come.
